Manual Actions

Learn how manual actions work, the call and SMS tasks your workflows create when a real person needs to step in. Find them, work through them with Let's Start, and set them up in your own automations.

What you'll learn

The Big Picture

Before you go looking for the tab, get oriented on what a manual action actually is and why some tasks need a real person instead of an automated send.

📞

What a manual action is

A call or SMS task created inside a workflow that requires you, or a teammate, to complete it by hand.

📍

Where to find your tasks

Every queued task lands in one place inside Conversations, ready to filter and work through.

✅

How to complete them

The Let's Start queue walks you through tasks one contact at a time and logs the outcome.

🤝

How assignment works

Route a task to a specific teammate, or leave it blank so it falls to the contact owner.

Key definitions

Terms worth knowing

A call or SMS task that requires you to act manually, usually created inside a workflow, campaign, or power dialer queue.
A task prompting a real phone call to the contact.
A task prompting a text, with an optional template and attachments.
Who the task is assigned to. Leave it blank to use the contact owner, or choose a specific user.
The button that launches a queue, walking you through tasks one contact at a time and logging the outcome as you go.
"The most common use for manual actions is to make a physical call. We automate the texts, but a real call usually needs that manual action."
How it works

What You'll See Inside

The Manual Actions tab shows every queued task. Click one to see what it covers.

Complete Call Tasks

Work through the required phone calls your workflows generate. Each task tells you who to call and why, so you can pick up the phone and go.

Complete SMS Tasks

Send a manual text, optionally starting from a saved template. This gives you full control over exactly what goes out and when.

Filter by Workflow or Assignee

Narrow the list to exactly the tasks you need, whether that's everything tied to one workflow or everything assigned to you.

Run the Let's Start Queue

Click Let's Start to knock out tasks one by one. The queue auto-advances to the next contact once you log an outcome, so you can move through a whole list without hunting for the next one.

Assign to a User

Route tasks to the right team member, or leave the assignee blank so it falls back to the contact owner automatically.

Tips

Worth remembering

  • Set manual actions inside the workflow. That's the only place they're created.
  • Leave the assignee blank to use the contact owner, or pick a user to override it.
  • Always send yourself a test before using an SMS template in a manual action.
  • Add a clear assign-to-user step so leads land with the right person.
  • Use a manual action, not an automated send, whenever you want to control the timing yourself.
