Touring the Payments Area

⏱️ 5-7 min

Find every money page, know what each one holds, and check whether you are in Test or Live mode.

Where it lives

The money pages

Click Search at the top of your screen, type Products and open it. You can also find it in your menu, but menus can be renamed, so search is the sure way. Every money page has its own name you can search for. Think of them in four groups.

What you sell and who moves the money

Products is your catalog, where you list what you sell. Payment Integrations is where you connect a payment provider like Stripe or PayPal.

  • Products holds names and prices
  • Payment Integrations is the cash register behind the counter

What already happened

Transactions shows one row per payment. Orders shows what someone bought. Subscriptions holds anything that bills again and again.

  • Transactions is the money record
  • Orders is the shopping record
  • Subscriptions is for repeat billing

Ways to get paid and adjust the price

Payment Links builds a simple link that goes straight to checkout. Coupons holds your discount codes. Taxes is where you set tax rates.

  • No website needed for a payment link

The extras

Commerce Settings holds things like receipts and retry rules for failed payments. You will not need it on day one.

  • Visit it after your first sale

⚡ Tips

  • Check the mode before you do anything in Payments, because Test and Live are kept separate.
  • If something seems missing, the first thing to check is whether you are in the other mode.
  • Page names may look a little different. Search for the closest match.
  • A brand new account shows nothing connected, and that is normal.

🧭 Plan my Payments tour

You are a friendly software trainer helping me get comfortable with the Payments area of my software. My context: - [my business and what I sell] - [how I get paid today] - [who else on my team will use Payments] Give me: - A short checklist for searching for each page - One sentence on what each page holds in plain words - Three questions to jot down as I look around Keep it under 250 words and use no jargon. Finish by asking me: "Which page am I most curious about right now?"

🔀 Explain Test and Live

You are a patient tech coach helping me understand Test mode and Live mode in my payments area. My context: - [the kind of checkout I plan to build] - [what I am nervous about] - [how comfortable I am with online payments] Give me: - A simple way to explain the difference - A habit I can use to check the mode every time - Two signs that I am in the wrong mode Use plain words and short sentences. Finish by asking me: "What would I like to test first before a customer sees it?"

You now have the map, and that makes every other step easier. Search for each money page, open it once, and check your mode.
