Create Your Brand Board

⏱️ 6-8 min

Now let's actually build one. We'll create your first Design Kit and walk through every section, logos, colors, and typography, so you can make it your own.

6 steps

Set Up Your First Brand Board

Here's the order this happens in, start to finish.

1

Go To Settings, Then Brand Boards

You'll see two options here: Design Kit (your logos, colors, and fonts) and Brand Voice (your tone and messaging). We're focused on the Design Kit in this lesson, Brand Voice gets its own lesson later.

2

Select Add A Design Kit

You can start from scratch, choose from a preset template, or import automatically from a website URL. If you need help choosing colors, use the brand color pairing tool for your primary plus five colors that go well together; for fonts, use the professional font pairing tool.

3

Name Your Brand Board And Save

Naming it clearly matters most once you're managing more than one. Look for the small dot in the top right, it appears the moment you have unsaved changes, and disappears once everything's saved.

4

Upload Your Logos

Add a primary logo, plus a second option: a horizontal and a vertical/square pair, or a full-color and a white (dark-background) pair. Logos automatically save into a Brand Board folder in your media library, so they're easy to find later no matter where you're working.

5

Set Your Colors

Add and label each one as you go, for example Primary, Accent, Success, Text, Background. Click any saved color and it copies the hex code straight to your clipboard.

6

Set Your Typography

Pick a primary font (for headings) and a second font (for body text) that pair well together. Save your board again once you're done, you can never save too often.

Label as you go

5 Colors Worth Naming

You can label your colors however you like, but this set covers almost everything you'll ever need to style.

🔵

Primary

Your main brand color. This is the one everyone will recognize as "you."

🟡

Accent

A complementary color for secondary elements, so your pages don't read as one flat color.

🟢

Success

The color for buttons and calls to action, anything you want someone to click.

⚫

Text

Your standard text color. It doesn't have to be black, pick whatever reads best against your background.

⚪

Background

The color you want to show up consistently behind your content, sections, columns, and rows.

⚡ Tips

  • Save often. Watch for the small dot in the top right, it's your reminder that something hasn't been saved yet.
  • Not sure where to start on colors or fonts? Use the built-in pairing tools rather than guessing.
  • A white or light version of your logo is easy to forget and easy to need later, upload one now if you have it.
  • Naming your colors (Primary, Accent, Success, Text, Background) instead of leaving them unlabeled saves everyone time down the road, especially if someone else ever works inside your account.

My context: - My business type and who I sell to: [describe briefly] - Words that describe how I want my brand to feel: [list 3-5, for example bold, trustworthy, modern] - A color I already know I want to use, if any: [name it, or say "not sure yet"] Give me: - A suggested Primary, Accent, Success, Text, and Background color, each as a hex code - A one-line reason each color fits the words I listed - One common color-pairing mistake to avoid for my particular combination Finish by asking me: "Want me to also suggest which of these should be your heading font versus your body font?"

🔤 Choosing My Two Fonts

You are a typography consultant helping me choose a heading font and a body font that pair well together for my Brand Board. My context: - My business type and the vibe I'm going for: [describe briefly, for example clean and modern, or warm and approachable] - Whether I want something widely available in most design tools, or I'm open to anything: [describe your preference] - Any font I'm already using somewhere and want to keep: [name it, or say "starting fresh"] Give me: - One heading font and one body font that pair well together, with a one-line reason why - A backup pairing in case the first one isn't available in my software - What NOT to pair with my heading font, and why Finish by asking me: "Want help deciding where these fonts should show up first, your website, your emails, or both?"

Once your first Brand Board is saved, your entire software starts feeling more aligned with your brand, and it saves you time every single time you go to create something new.
