Building Your First Form

⏱️ 5-7 min

Create a blank form, drag in name, email, phone, and message, set labels and required fields, then save and test it.

Step by step

Build a contact form in five minutes

Click Search at the top of your screen and type Forms, then open it. You can always change anything later.

1

Start a new form

Click + Create New Form and choose blank. A template is a form someone already built, which gives you a head start.

2

Name it

Give it a name you will recognize later, like Website Contact Form. A clear name helps when you have ten forms.

3

Drag in your fields

From the fields panel on the left, drag Name, Email, Phone, and Message onto the canvas. Put the easiest question first.

4

Edit a field

Click a field, like Email, and open General Settings. Change the label, add a placeholder, and turn on Required.

5

Add a short label

Fill in the short label. It is the shorter name that shows in your Submissions table so columns stay neat.

6

Save, preview, and test

Click Save, then Preview. Submit a test entry with your own email, then check the Submissions tab.

Field settings

What each setting does

Click a field and open General Settings. Click a tab to compare.

The text above the box

This is what people read first. Change it and the canvas updates right away.

  • Use plain words like Your Email

The gray hint inside the box

A small example that fades when someone types, like [email protected].

  • A hint, not a replacement for the label

Must be filled in

The form will not submit until a required box is filled. Make email required so you can follow up.

  • Required phone can make some people quit

The neat column name

A shorter name for the field that appears in your Submissions table.

  • Keeps your table easy to scan

⚡ Tips

  • Ask only for what you need to follow up. Each extra box costs you a few people.
  • Put the easiest question first, because easy forms get finished.
  • Fields connect to your CRM for you, so you do not map anything by hand.
  • Always save before you preview and test.

Copy a prompt below and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or whatever AI tool you use. Fill in the bracketed details and it'll help you write your own version for your business.

✍️ Write my field labels

You are a clear copywriter helping me write labels and placeholders for my first form. My context: - [my business] - [what the form is for, like a contact request] - [the fields I plan to add] Give me: - A plain label for each field - A short placeholder hint for each field - A short label for each field for my Submissions table Keep each label under five words and avoid jargon. Finish by asking me: "Which of these fields do I really need, and which could I drop?"

🧪 Make my test plan

You are a careful tester helping me check my new form before anyone uses it. My context: - [my form name] - [the fields on my form] - [which fields are required] Give me: - A step-by-step test I can follow in Preview - Three mistakes a visitor might make and what should happen - A short checklist for the Submissions tab afterward Keep each point to one sentence. Finish by asking me: "What would a first-time visitor probably get stuck on?"

You just built a working form. Make your own blank one, add the four fields, and submit one test entry.
